Today I competed in my last Coolidge 1v1 Debate tournament of this year's season. I placed 6th out of 55 individual varsity debaters, ranking 2nd in speaker points and having the top 3-1 record. Unfortunately, all top 5 competitors had a 4-0 record, and I was just one spot away from getting a Coolidge Cup invitation. Oh well :( (maybe chance for a roll-down qualification?) Regardless, my first year doing Coolidge Debate was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience!
The Coolidge Foundation's debate resolutions this year - abolishing the U.S. Department of Education, and repealing the Wagner Act - were two very diverse and interesting resolutions which made for extremely high-quality and enjoyable debate content. A huge thanks to my coach, Danielle Miller (her website! https://www.daniellemillerspeechdebate.com), whose feedback and support I could not have done without. Also, massive appreciation for the Coolidge Foundation, which runs all these tournaments extremely professionally for students, for free! This tournament was a nice way to close this year's season, and I'm looking forward to continue developing my speaking and debate skills in the next!
